Bloomberg Processing

Financial services firms rely on Bloomberg email and instant messaging to correspond with investors and others as part
of normal business communications. This can pose a major regulatory risk for firms as these often overlooked
messages are subject to the same SEC, NASD, and NYSE regulations as all other email.

As part of SuperiorGlacier’s comprehensive service offering, we are able to process files from the Bloomberg Message
System. Our tool converts messages, messages with attachments and chat sessions into individual message files which
can then be treated and processed like a standard Outlook message in preparation for litigation, regulatory or compliance
matters.

Handling Bloomberg Mail
Archive files made available through Bloomberg Mail are “text dumps” where a single archive file may contain hundreds
of thousands of individual messages. In order to search or review Bloomberg Mail in any of the ligitation industry
standard review platforms, (i.e. Concordance, Summation, Ringtail, iConect), it is necessary to:
Break up an archive file into individual records
Identify or assign a unique message number for an extracted record
Extract the metadata (such as To, From, Subject) from the records
Extract text from the records
Identify and link any attachments
Generate a load file in one of the litigation industry standard formats

Our Bloomberg Conversion Utility, developed in-house by SuperiorGlacier’s programmers, can unitize and number individual
messages, parse out metadata fields and extract text. This enables us to produce a custom load file from the
resulting data.

More on Bloomberg Messaging and Compliance
Compliance regulations such as FINRA Rules 3010 and 3110, SEC Rule 17a-4, and IDA Bylaw 29.7 require electronic
business communications, including Bloomberg Mail, to be monitored and archived for compliance purposes. Company
email policies also often require all business communications to be retained for litigation, monitoring and internal
purposes. SuperiorGlacier can convert these files into individual Outlook MSG files for loading into existing email archiving
systems.
